The WAY or DO in many fields in Japan mostly nourished by the Samurai culture, which existed through 1100years until Meiji restoration in AD 1868. Shido- The way of the Samurai and their code of ethics were highlighted in this Japanese cultural awareness program and workshop for the teaching staff and emphasized, taught, and passed the Samurai philosophy of the universe and code of ethics to the teachers. For an example Samurai respected their enemy as themselves with dignity. SAMURAI means to SERVE the load or superior. Kanji (Japanese character) can be translated to “Person and Temple”. That means Samurais maintained inner peace and acted as a worrier at the same time. Manners and discipline in day-to-day life in every part of the Japanese society is highly respected by every layers of the society. This is called SHI – FUU and can be translate to wind of Samurai. Wind to express life (Wisdom, Love and Courage) so SHI FUU blow from hearts of the Samurai that others can feel and sense. 19th century samurai Yukichi Fukusawa was the founder of the KEIO University (One of the best universities in Japan) Teaching and Passing Shi-Fuu to future generations is important to polish our cultural, social and daily life and for a better & a balanced future. Mr. Keerthi Wickramaratne finally explained the importance of teachers applying these learnings practically in the classroom to maintain psychological balance & concentration of students and promote peace, harmony and discipline among youth and society.
