LNBTI Advisory Board Chairman: Prof. Lakshman receiving a prestigious award “Order of the rising sun” from Japan

The Government of Japan Announces the Conferment of “The Order of the Rising Sun” upon two renowned Sri Lankan Nationals: On 29th April 2022, the recipients of “The Order of the Rising Sun” were announced by the Government of Japan. For the Spring Conferment this year, two respectable figures, as undermentioned, from Sri Lanka were honoured with this esteemed award in recognition of their distinguished contribution to promoting academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Sri Lanka. Deshamanya Prof. Weligamage Don Lakshman – The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon Mrs. Kalyani Siriseeli Lakshman – The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette Deshamanya Prof. Weligamage Don Lakshman, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo and the former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, promoted Japanese studies program in Sri Lanka and enhanced educational and academic interactions by teaching and undertaking joint research as a visiting scholar at several Japanese universities and research institutes. He has established the Master’s Course in Japanese Studies in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Colombo in 1987, the first regional-study program in Sri Lanka. The volume which he edited, and published by the University of Colombo on the 50th Anniversary of Sri Lanka – Japan relationships remains a valuable source book on the subject. Prof. Lakshman also promoted cooperaton with several Japanese universities as the chairman of advisory board of Lanka Nippon Biztech Institute and also contributed to a number of joint activities in Sri Lanka, undertaken by Ryukoku University and Saga University and International University in Japan. Yoshida International School joins hands with LNBTI to create a brighter future in Japan for their students

Both institutions agreed to work together for the benefit and to create brighter futures for students at Yoshida International School by providing a successful pathway to work as professionals in the lucrative Japanese IT industry through the LNBTI model by completing an Hons IT degree in Sri Lanka and work in Japan as IT professionals. In order to achieve this objective, both institutes discussed and agreed on many joint activities which will enable students to fulfill this dream. One such immediate activity was that Mrs. Ambapali agreed to specially arrange a seminar on 17th June at 3.00 pm for students who completed the G C E O/L exam recently. The school management was very positive about the 5-year degree platform and the professional job opportunities in Japan. Mr. Ravindra proposed to have a special committee from Yoshida International School to build good rapport among LNBTI students and staff, in the meantime to get the agreement signed too. Prof. Ananda Kumara also proposed that he can assist the secondary school education in many ways with his Japanese University network. Specially to interact with Japanese students.

The Japanese University students of Meijo University, Japan started conducting this informative session for LNBTI students from 23rd March 2022. Also, this virtual session will continue up until the month of May with different exciting topics of Japan. The main objective of this session is to give a brief introduction about Japan by Japanese natives, where our Sri Lankan students would be able to get a clear understanding about Japan in every aspects. LNBTI sponsors the Annual Japanese Cultural Seminar of Ananda College

LNBTI was delighted to sponsor the annual Japanese cultural seminar of Ananda College organized by the Ananda College Japanese Language Association. The programme was held on 29th April 2022 at the Kularathne Hall. Japanese language teachers and students from many leading schools attended this informative programme on the invitation. The programme was well supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Sri Lanka Office. The programme consisted of several activities relating to Japan including two important lectures on Japanese culture conducted by a professional lecturer and a JICA volunteer teacher Miss Satomi Matsuyama. LNBTI also made an interesting presentation on many educational and professional employment opportunities available in Japan and further elaborating on the high possibility of professional employment on high skilled category for students upon completing proper higher education through LNBTI and concluded by mentioning that this path offered by LNBTI will not only benefit Japanese organizations, but also will benefit Sri Lankan economy (presently a great need) and families of students for a successful future. The programme concluded very successful on a high note.

LNBTI welcomed the new students – Orientation Program April 2022

LNBTI welcomed the new batch of enthusiastic students during the online orientation held on Monday 18th April 2022 via online. Orientation activities, taking place after enrolling a new batch, familiarize students with the Institute environment, the services, and resources available to them, as well as to exercise, socialize and make new friends.  The programme was successfully conducted with the participation of the LNBTI leadership. Chairman of the LNBTI Mr. Koga Michio, President of the LNBTI Prof. Ananda Kumara, Director of the LNBTI Mr. Saman Kumara and Head of the Academics Dr. Thilak Chaminda, Director of Marketing Mr. Dilshan Samarasekara were shared their valuable ideas and knowledge during the session. The programme consisted of valuable speeches and interactive sessions.  The students and their proud parents were joined with the session and commented on that they believe LNBTI’s degree programmes as excellent & proper pathway to become successful in Japan. The orientation brought immense confidence in students & parents that they have made the correct and wise decision in joining LNBTI to fulfill their dream of becoming successful in Japan.  During the orientation, we encourage our new students to begin to feel connected to the LNBTI community, feel confident about choosing LNBTI for their studies and get them excited about the start of the academic year!

The newly appointed president of the LNBTI

The Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute is delighted to announce that Professor Ananda Kumara will be its new President (Vice Chancellor) from 1 April 2022. Prof. Ananda Kumara is a Sri Lankan researcher and was the Founding Dean, Faculty of Foreign Studies at Meijo University in Japan. Prof. Ananda Kumara was the first foreigner & Sri Lankan to be awarded the prestigious Japan international cooperation agency (JICA) president’s award, for his valuable contribution in Japan. Recently he was awarded as the president of The Japanese association for global competency education. Also, he is the vice president ofSri Lanka academics association of Japan. Prof. Ananda Completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Kelaniya and Master of Engineering Degree (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Engineering Degree (D.Eng.) at Tokyo Institute of Technology. Later, he became a Professor of TokyoTech. Further, he progressed his career at different universities, securing various positions from Lecturer through to Dean. He has some of his past involvement, including with Lever Brothers Ltd (Sri Lanka), Kelaniya University (Sri Lanka), United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD), and Suzuka International University and Tokyo Institute of Technology. He was selected to the LNBTI advisory board in 2020 and later became the Director of academic affairs at LNBTI Institute. Professor Ananda, in his new position, will lead the development and implementation of a new strategy for the Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute, spearheading initiatives that transform lives and inspire positive change through learning and research. Speaking of his new appointment, Professor Ananda said: “I am hugely honoured and incredibly happy to be joining the team at the Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute in the role of President. I am going to expand my scale and deepen my inner self. In the near future, we plan to accept foreign students from Japan. I am looking forward to working with everyone at LNBTI and am ready to take on the challenges and seize the opportunities that will come our way. LNBTI is small but the best higher education institution in Sri Lanka”. Further, he extended his wishes to his colleagues and all his students every success for the future. Prof. Ananda is an aspirational leader with a proven record and a highly accomplished educator and researcher. He has improved the university experience for staff and students in his current and past positions and driven initiatives around equality, diversity and inclusion. His dedication to the ideals of using higher education as a catalyst for positive social impact mirrors our own changemaker ethos.
